So, I need to get rid of them so I can get other stuff. lol

I also have a few sets of the Letter People Readers.(I have 1, maybe two, if I can find the other one, left.)

These retail for $99. I am selling each set for $25. These are all in great condition.

I remember doing the Letter People when I was in school! You can find printable worksheets online to go along with the readers if you want to.

I'll probably be adding more later as I come across more stuff.

Thanks for looking.

Curriculum I will be using with my daughter this year

I am finally getting around to writing up my daughter's curriculum for this year!

You can find my son's list here.

My daughter and I are super excited about what we are using this year.

For Bible/Worldview we are going to be using Who Is God by Apologia.

Who Is God?

I am using this with both of my kiddo's this year. I just ordered the coloring book that goes along with this for my son. I should be getting it any day now.

My daughter and I are doing a study together called Raising Maidens of Virtue.

We are doing this once a week.

This year is especially exciting for my daughter because she gets to use Teaching textbooks!

Her grandmother actually got this for her. She will be using the new Pre-Algebra 2.0 edition.

Pre-Algebra Teaching Textbook Pre-Algebra Answer Key

This new edition is awesome because the child gets to do their work on the computer just like the younger grades do. It will grade it for me too, and put it all into a grade book.

This is the only math program that my daughter has ever liked. We have never been able to afford it though.

We were so blessed that her grandma got this for her.

Another program that we were blessed with was Diana Waring's Romans, Reformers, Revolutionaries.

My husband's cousin actually gave us this program. Everything was included except for the music CD that goes along with it. It is optional, but I went ahead and ordered it because I thought it would really be nice to have.
I can't wait to really dig into this program, as it is written in more of a unit study format. I am really curious as to if this will work for us. I think it will, but we'll see. lol

We are using Homeschool in the Woods timeline notebook and figures to go along with RRR.

Also for history this year we will be using The Light and the Glory for Children.

The Light and the Glory for Children : Discovering God's Plan for America from Christopher Columbus to George Washington

I will be using this with both of my kids. To make it suit my younger child I will be using The Light and the Glory Activity Book for younger children.

Light and the Glory Children's Activity Book, The [Book]

This is made for children ages 5-8. This is great! They can color and listen while you are reading to the older ones.

For science this year we are actually using two sources.

The first we are using is Apologia's Anatomy and Physiology.

Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology -
        By: Jeannie Fulbright

I did not get the Notebooking Journal that goes along with this because it seems like it is better suited for the younger students.

The other source we are using for science this year is Building Blocks in Life Science.

Building Blocks in Life Science

This is a high school level science. My daughter is entering high school this year, but she still really enjoys Apologia's elementary series. So we are doing both! HA

We are also going through Nutrition 101: Choose life! this year. This is also a science, but it is also health. (AND MUCH MORE!)

Photobucket

I reviewed this last year in e-book form, and loved it so much that I bought it in physical book form. My husband actually bought it for me for mothers day.

One of our favorite school subjects is writing. Now, it didn't use to be that way until we found IEW's Student Writing Intensive
SID_B.gif

We love, love, love this program. It has changed everything for us, as far as writing is concerned.

Since I already wrote a review on this program, I will just give you that link instead of re-writing it all.  You can find my review here.

We are using another IEW product for spelling called The Phonetic Zoo. We are using the budget package. This is the same program, but without the audio CD's.
I don't mind reading my daughter her spelling words.

Spelling has always been something my daughter has struggled with. This program is so easy on us both, and has really made a huge difference. I highly recommend this program if you have a struggling speller.

This one set will take you from elementary to high school.

For Art we will be using two programs. We will be finishing up Drawing Basics with Thomas Kinkade by Alpha Omega. (The only thing I liked from AO. lol)

Drawing Basics with Thomas Kinkade--DVD Curriculum -
        By: Thomas Kinkade

This is great. We really like it. It teaches you how to draw. The other art program we are using does not teach you how to draw. It teaches you how to make your drawing better.

That would be Artistic Pursuits.

My daughter loves Artistic Pursuits.

We use Editor in Chief from the Critical Thinking Company to keep up on Grammar.

Editor in Chief

I think that is about it. She is going to try to add in some lapbooks, and extra fun stuff this year, but this is the main idea.

We won't do everything, everyday, of course. I will try to get a schedule put together and share it with you soon.

Thanks for checking out what we are using this year!

It's Time to Go

It is time for my list of Recently Reviewed products to go.

But don't worry, it will soon be replaced with new products from this year!

You can still find all of my TOS reviews on the left hand side of my blog under 2010/2011 TOS reviews.

I will be starting up my Upcoming Reviews list as well. So be looking for that in a few moments...

Before I go and erase my list, here it is one last time, in order from the most recently reviewed.

ENJOY...and look for my upcoming reviews list to start very soon...

Slim Down Sunday - Week 1 for Me

Heartfelt HomeschoolingI am joining up with April at Heartfelt Homeschooling
for Slim Down Sunday.

I probably won't post on Sundays, as we can post anytime throughout the week.

I will try to post on Mondays.

This is my first week so I don't have anything to report, but I am in this for trying to lose 20 pounds.

I need to lose more than that ultimately, but I am going to focus on smaller goals first.

This week one of my goals is to only have one pop a day, so I can wean down. I ahve went cold tukey before, but the withdrawls are awful.

I am going to eat much more sensibly, and I am making my morning smoothies again.
As far as activity goes, I will not be able to have a formal workout routine, because I am getting my house ready to put up for sale, so that will give me a lot of activity. lol

So I look forward to seeing some results next week, and I hope everyone else does too.

If you want to join us, you can find the link up here.

Hey guys, I thought it would be fun to have a link up where we all list what we are using for our curriculum this year.

What do you think? Want to join in?

It will be fun. I'll get it started.

You can also include your schedules, and how you make it all work.

Don't forget to check out everyone else's posts.

I can't wait to see what you all are using for your homeschool. I love getting new ideas, don't you?

Feel free to post this button on your blog, or in your blog post.

OK, let's get going.....

*You may have noticed that I changed my button for this by adding 2011/2012 to it. I did this because I am having so much fun that I decided to do this every year! Thanks so much for participating. It has been a blast.*

Curriculum I will be using with my son this year.

Wow, we are about to start full swing into school again this year.

We usually don't take the summer off, but I have had a lot of extra things going on around here this summer.

I am super excited about this years curriculum. I think we are really going to enjoy this year.

Today I am going to share with you what my son and I are going to be doing for school this year.

My son is 6, and is going into the first grade. Not that we care about grade levels, lol.

For Bible/Worldview we are going to be using Who Is God by Apologia.

Who Is God?

I am actually using this with both of my children, as this program is geared for children ages 6-14, of which I happen to have a 6 year old and a 14 year old!

There is an accompanying Notebooking Journal, Audio, and Coloring Book to go along with this book.

I do not have any of them, but I am thinking of ordering the coloring book for my 6 year old.

Reading is what we are focusing on the most this year. We are using PAL (Primary Arts of Language) by Jill Pike, and put out by The Institute for Excellence in Writing. (My absolute favorite curriculum company.)

There are two parts to this program. They can be used together, or separately. I recommend using them together if you can, but you can use only one.

We are only using the Reading portion.

We are not using the Writing portion, because we already have a handwriting program that we really like. (HWT)

But, I do like the fact that these two programs work together to teach the child to write the same sounds as they are reading.

I recommend using these together, if possible, and honestly, if I had the extra money, I might just buy the Writing portion as well.

Included in the Writing portion is All About Spelling, which I do plan to use with my son.

I want to get through more of the Reading Program first, and then purchase All About Spelling Level 1.

I'll let you know when I do get it, and how we like it.

To go along with our Reading program, we are still using the I See Sam Readers. (You can read my review here.)

Love these readers!!!

Deluxe Read to Succeed Gift Set

For math we are using A Beka's 1st grade math workbook.

For handwriting, we are using Handwriting Without Tears

For science and history we are using books from Christian Liberty Press.

The World God Made -
        By: Edward J. Shewan

The American People & Nation -
        By: Michael McHugh

I love the fact that Christian Liberty Press is very Christian, and really cheap! lol

The pages in most of their books for younger students are very beautiful.

They are not large books, as young children don't need a huge textbook for these subjects. Well, no subjects really. :)

One of my son's favorite things to do for school is Kinderbach. (You can read my review here.)

We reviewed this last year, and my son loved it sooooo much! lol
We had a coupon code, and we bought sets 1-3. The weird thing is that after we got it, we haven't really used it. But that is because I have been super busy. We will start it back this week, hopefully.

He would love that.

I am also going to try and make an effort to do more lapbooks this year, as we have a lifetime membership to Hands of a Child, but haven't used it very much.

If you have never tried lapbooking before, Hands of a Child has a freebie right now. They actually change out the freebies every quarter, I believe.

I also want to incorporate more read alouds with both of the kiddos. I think this is really important. Unfortunately I don't seem to make the time for it.

Now, of course we aren't going to try to do all of this every day. I will be making a schedule soon and will share it with you when I have a good one figured out.

Well, that's about it for my 6 year old's homeschool curriculum.

I will be posting about my daughter's soon.

I will also post their schedules when I get them figured out.

I hope this helps some of you to see what other people do for their homeschools, and that maybe it gives you some curriculum ideas!

Great Homeschool News!

My mother-in-law just purchased Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra for my daughter! Whoo-Hoo!

Pre-Algebra Teaching Textbook Pre-Algebra Answer Key

We are so excited about it.

AND..... We were just given Diana Waring's Romans, Reformers, Revolutionaries History set, and my mother-in-law also bought us the History Through the Ages Timeline book and figures!

We are so thrilled about this. We don't need anything else for school this year. Now, want, is different. HA

But seriously, we are all good now. I am very grateful to my mother-in-law for helping us out, and for getting TT, as they are so pricey, and we could have went with something cheaper, but she wanted my daughter to have what she really wanted.

That was so nice of her. We haven't always gotten along, but things have been a lot better lately.

I thank the Lord for that.

Anyways, I just had to share the great news! I know you homeschoolers will understand my excitement. lol

As you probably already know, I am part of the TOS Homeschool Crew. And SO thrilled to be!

Well, today we got our first glimpse of vendors soon to come.

So be on the lookout in the next few weeks for my list of upcoming reviews to start filling out, and soon after that, for the reviews to start up again.

I know, it is exciting, huh? lol

OK, well, maybe more for me, but I know you will be looking forward to more reviews this year as well.

Stay tuned!

My Son's First Pocket Knife

Gerber® Bear Grylls Survival Series Compact Scout™ Folding Knife
My son got his first pocket knife today.

I am not sure if that is a good thing or not! HA

He is 6 1/2. It is a little young, but he is not allowed to open it without his dad right there.

He is such a manly little boy, and he wants to be so grown up like his dad.

My husband and my son love to watch Bear Grylls on Man vs. Wild, and my son wanted a Bear Grylls knife. lol

I just thought I would share this with you. My baby is growing up too fast.

He made his own spear and bow and arrow the other day.

I'll take pictures to show you soon.

The Story of the Pledge of Allegiance

The Story of The Pledge of Allegiance

Did you know that our Pledge of Allegiance did not originally contain the words under God?

Did you know that Francis Bellamy was the man who wrote the Pledge?

Did you know that the Pledge used to be said with a solute, instead of hand over heart?

I didn't know any of this until my daughter and I read The Story of the Pledge of Allegiance by John Hudson Tiner.

The Story of the Pledge of Allegiance is a small, 48 page book that is jam packed with knowledge of our Pledge.

If you are interested in learning the history of our Pledge, how it came to be, who wrote it, what the Pledge means, and many other facts about our Pledge, than I recommend this book.

We really enjoyed it. It is short enough that it only took us a few days to read it, but full enough that we actually learned a lot.

I really appreciated that it was written from a biblical perspective as well.

I know we will continue to use this as a reference when we need to quickly find information on our Pledge.

You can use this book on it's own, but it would also make a great addition to a unit study.

We have been learning about the Revolution time period, Betsy Ross, George Washington, America, etc., so this is a perfect addition to our unit study.

At only $6.99, you can't beat the price either.

I think it would make a great addition to your library as well.

I received this book from New Leaf Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation has been given to me.
