HMM, I obviously don't know how to make a pot roast. I have only made them in the crock pot before. I tried to make it on the stove top, and I put too much oil in the pan to brown it, my friend told me, and then I can not figure out the right temp. to keep it on, as I keep haveing to add water, and I don't think you are supposed to have to do that.
And then it just keeps bubbling up so much that it is splattering out of the lid down to the fire.
ARRGGG, I have to figure this out! LOL
Any tips?

When I make a roast on the stove this is what I do: Season with salt and pepper and then brown all sides of the roast in a small amount of oil. Once it is brown on all sides, add a can of broth (or if you don't have broth, you can add about a cup and half of water). Cover tightly with a lid and reduce heat to medium low. Let it cook about 2-3 hours (for a 3.5 lb roast).
Well, that's pretty much what I did, but all of the water kept evaporating out. HMMMM, Oh, I just never learned how to cook.
Sorry to hear about your pot roast but I'm definitely going to be of no help. I've never made it because I don't think I can... I've just recently tried stew and it tasted really good but um, it didn't turn out like it was supposed to!
I didn't 'learn to cook' until I was 18 and married- that was almost 14 years ago and I still can't cook worth a hoot!!
Spaghetti is my specialty (cook the noodles, brown the meat, dump in the sauce- voila!). heehee
HA HA , sounds like me. I didn't turn out too bad but it was overcooked.
So, next time I just need to cook it a little less.
Stick with the crock pot! :-)
And...you've been tagged! Check out my post for the info...

I don't even attempt pot roast on the stove! The crock pot is the only way I do it!
