Our first time doing read alouds with snacks!

We tried today to have a read aloud with my two kids! I have tried before to do read alounds with both of them and it hasn't worked. I usually have to do them separate. I really want to be able to read to them at the same time. So, I took the advice of Cindy Rushton and decided to uses snacks and drinks during the time I read to them so that my little on would be quite and still during read aloud time! It worked for a short while, so that is better than nothing but I couldn't read for too long. I am hoping to be able to build up the time I can read to them. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to get little ones to cooperate during read aloud time? My littlest one is 3. Thanks!

I have two "littles", one four and one three. I have a 7 yo that I homeschool and have tried reading with all of them. It gets very loud and I loose the littles after a while. Keep with the routine of reading and giving them snacks, if you intend on keeping the snack thing. The more they get to practice sitting for short periods of time the easier it will become. Take it one day at a time. It is a work in progress at our house, but I have found that in the past repetition and patience is the key!! Good luck! I know it's hard at times but the reward is well worth the time and effort on your part. Hang in there!

Yeah, I think I will keep it up, just for short periods of time though. It is easier to read to my daughter after he is asleep!
