What is Homesteading?

Every person might have a different idea of what homesteading means to them, but basically it is about getting back to the basics.
Things like making what you can yourself, growing what you can yourself, being self reliant, buying in bulk or on sale, and preserving it by freezing or canning, saving money, reducing expenses, re-using what you can, and possibly even having your own chickens, goats, or cows.
Each person will do this differently, and if you live in the city, it will be different for you than it would someone in the country.
I am still in the country, but I am learning now as we are going to move soon.
It’s almost like I have been doing my own unit study!
I have learned a lot so far, and have a lot more to learn, but I am loving it.
How do you homestead where you live?

For me, it's all about cooking from scratch and making my house a home.

Some day, we may be able to garden again and live on some land. For now, I'll just need to be content where I am.

Oh, I'm starting an herb garden in my kitchen as I miss the fresh herbs from my old garden. :)

OOH, can you make an herb garden in winter? I really want to do that too, but didn't think you could in winter.
