A while back I requested Building Blocks in Life Science from New Leaf Publishing.
My daughter is entering high school this year, and I thought this would be perfect since this was a high school science curriculum.
This is actually a great book, but my daughter is a young 9th grader, and it was a little too difficult for her.
Well, she says it's not too difficult for her, but it was for me! HA Just kidding, well, kinda. lol
I think she could do it, but I think she will get a lot more out of it in a couple of years. Or maybe even next year.
That said, we did do some of it, and I have looked through it, and really like it.
I love that it is a Christian Science curriculum. It is very detailed scientifically, but shows God as the creator of everything.
It actually gives scientific evidence to refute things such as evolution.
It is a great faith builder. Your child will not be lost when asked why they believe in Creation. I love this.
The author, Gary Parker, is a former evolutionist, which I think is awesome, because it is a very powerful testimony.
This book is made up of 3 units and 19 chapters:
- Covers in-depth topics such as genes and Genesis, the roll of natural selection, embryonic development, as well as DNA and the magnificent origins of life
- Powerfully refutes the evolutionary worldview that life simply evolved by chance over millions of years--Provides exceptional insights and clarity to patterns of order in living things, including the promise of healing and new birth in Christ
- Offers a fill-in-the-blank or short answer study page at the end of each chapter so students may test their comprehension
- Helps students know how to defend their faith scientifically
I think it would be best if we did the first book in the series before we do this one. The first book is Building Blocks in Science.
And you can't beat the price!
You can purchase Building Blocks in Life Science here for only $15.99.
It is a great value. It is only black and white, but that really wasn't a deterrent with this book. My daughter said she actually preferred it that way.
Another bonus...you don't have to buy a separate teachers guide or answer key. The answers are in the back of the book.
If you have a high school aged child, I say check it out. I think you will really like it.
*I received this book for free from New Leaf Publishing, in return for an honest review. No other compensation has been given to me.

We love science, and it's always a bonus when it's faith based. Thanks for the review. We're not that far away from high school science.
